Callooh Callay is a strong name in London due to its many strong suits – this is the place you go to take a break from crowded, faceless bars around town which don’t seem to target a particular clientele or to endeavor with the task of impressing with something concrete. Here things go just the opposite way – ever since the opening of Callooh Callay, its owner has done his best to attract visitors with style, innovatively created décor, expertly made drinks, enjoyable service and great music.
To begin with, your first choice is to find your table somewhere in the beginning of the bar with its quirky art design and stay late for drinks contemplating the nightlife in Shoreditch. But if you are up for a more exciting experience and would like to get the most of this Alice-in-Wonderland bar I suggest you move the party to the Jub-jub room on the other side of the wardrobe. Every weekend there is a different party and you can either find some well-known songs or a fresh theme for the lively night. Either way it is worth it.
Moreover, on this ‘other side’ is where the magic of the cocktails happens. This Jub Jub Bar is said to be members only but you don’t have to pay double for your night, it is enough to be a keen cocktail drinker…Every two weeks the list of drinks and the bartender change and it’s hard to visit it twice and have similar good memories the other day – be prepared, expect something new every time.

If you decide to have a casual night and stay downstairs, you should know that it is not a poor choice either. Callooh Callay provides its customers with excellent products and service no matter the area they are sitting in. Yes, service too – among the bars clients it is common knowledge that the staff is efficient, friendly, never inattentive or with something of a haughty attitude. And what is more, if you like them that much that you have a desire to learn a thing or two from their craft – Callooh Callay offers regular masterclasses where the bartenders will present you some of the intricacies of their job.
If you have doubts that I am gabbling on about how great the place is just because of my personal taste, you should know that it has been granted many awards by competent jurors. Some of them are the appellation ’’Number 1 bar in the UK’’ in the Independent and the ‘’Best Cocktail Menu in the World’’ in the famous Tales of the Cocktail awards. And you get all that for not such a high price – tasting some of the bar’s most famous cocktails would cost you around £10 which is a steal in comparison to much higher prices in not that renowned venues.
Don’t hesitate to book a table, Callooh Callay’s staff would be happy to prepare it and even keep it for you in case you get stuck in traffic. If by any chance this Shoreditch’s legend does not live up to your expectations, you could always call cocktail industry’s Oscars – the Tales of Cocktail – and make a complaint.
